The Color of the Year is on the Menu Tonight

We’re seeing the world through butter-colored glasses. This year, the pastel derivative of the rainbow’s “Y” is the “It Shade,” gracing the celebrity closets, design-forward kitchenware, and stemware of bars and restaurants across the country.

Haven’t given much thought to the color wheel? Waffle on with us. Butter yellow carries a sense of vintage charm, while still feeling modern and fresh. Somewhere between a warm beige and a muted gold, it radiates softness and sophistication. Unlike the louder lemon yellows or neon counterparts, butter yellow whispers instead of shouts. Across the bars and restaurants we’re lucky to work with, it whispers, “drink me.”

The Yuzu Mugirita at Sip&Guzzle in New York’s West Village – available only at Guzzle, the bar’s upstairs outpost – is a delicious lemony twist on a margarita, fusing shochu, yuzu, shiso, and agave.

The Thunderstruck at ElNico Rooftop, the rooftop bar and restaurant at The Penny Williamsburg, is a mango-forward whiskey sour; blending Elijah Craig small batch bourbon, Licor 43, mango, lemon, herbal liqueur, and egg white.

The Affy Tapple Spritz at Darling, the rooftop bar at Park Lane New York, gets its yellow coloring from clarified apple and French Cider, blended with Grey Goose Vodka, caramel, lemon, sweet and dry vermouth, and bay leaf.

Corn yellow doesn’t quite have the same ring, but we’ll make do. The Roasted Corn Sour at SUPERBUENO, No. 2 on North America’s Best Bars list, features corn whiskey, reposado tequila, roasted corn, guajillo, lemon, and egg whites.

Just across the pond, NoMad London’s take on the classic Pisco Sour is a delicious sip and a delight in a glass. Drink up!
