Live music is booming. Tours are breaking records, shows are selling out, and the post-pandemic comeback has been dubbed a “Golden Age.” But behind the packed venues and soaring ticket prices, many artists are still struggling to get by, and the gap between who profits and who doesn’t continues to widen.
Five years after the pandemic reshaped the industry, Pollstar reports that worldwide gross for the top 100 touring artists rose 71.7% between 2019 and 2024. Meanwhile, lawsuits against Live Nation and Ticketmaster allege monopolistic practices that inflate ticket prices while shrinking artists’ returns. According to the 2024 MusiCares Wellness in Music survey, 69% of musicians can’t cover their living expenses from music alone.
That’s why supporting local artists and the venues that champion them matters more than ever. RHC has rounded up bars helping keep live music – and the communities it creates – alive.

The brand’s expansion-from its origins in LA to New York and now D.C.-underscores the enduring appeal of live music in the bar scene. All of this is tied together by Desert 5 Spot’s signature Americana vibe and 1970s desert-inspired design, with live music at the heart of the experience.
